Welcome to Liberal Moscow, the online home of Northern Idaho’s progressive, feminist, gay-friendly, unapologetic, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, Constitution and Bill of Rights-loving, evolutionary, informative, enthusiastic, political junkie, smart-growth, smart-assed, happy-go-lucky brain trust. We are all democrats here. Some of us are also Democrats, but not necessarily. (Barack Obama, yes; Zell Miller, no.)
Independents, libertarians, socialists, anarcho-syndicalists, liberal and moderate Republicans, if any still exist, are also very welcome. So, too, are thoughtful conservatives. (Kevin Phillips, yes; Sean Hannity, no.) This is a no racism, no sexism, no homophobia zone. If you require concrete definitions of those terms, then this probably isn’t the blog for you. We’ll assume that you got lost on your way to Wikipedia and not that you were looking for Ann Coulter’s website.
We expect and encourage debate, and heated argument is just fine. Do try to be respectful in your discourse, even if your opponent is “a vacant, toffee-nosed, malodorous pervert.” We ask that you try to limit yourself to three posts per day. If you find that three is not enough, then either the debate is really interesting, or you need to take a break from this site and spend some time with the classified ads. We’ll leave that decision up to you.
This is a moderated blog, but it is not rigorously policed. We’d prefer that you post under your real name. That needn’t be the name you were saddled with at birth by your thoughtless hippie parents; just the name by which most others know you. If you really are Ivana Man, Anita Dick, or I. P. Freely, then you have our deepest sympathy.
So there. This is the very first post on a brand-new, optimistic, loudly liberal, revolutionary, ass-kicking Northern Idaho blog. As a founding member of the MTV generation, I have to say it: Video killed the radio star!

Well, I still may just opt out of v2020. It looks like the latest ploy to take over is to inundate us with junk, rudeness, and Trinitarian hijinks. Perhaps a moderated list is really needed at this particular point in time. Hoping the defection of those with something to say will cause those with nothing to say to go back under their rocks….

Hello, all. This is Chas, talking to you (as promised) under my ordinary guise. Some of you have tried to post, but those messages haven’t appeared. I apologize; this is a relatively new enterprise for both Joan and myself, and we are still learning. I have some experience with moderating blogs, but life intruded just as Liberal Moscow was being born, so I wasn’t able to wear my adminstrator hat when it would have been most convenient for Joan, and for you all. My apologies to everyone.
Liberal Moscow users are grouped into the following categories:
* Administrator – Somebody who has access to all the administration features
* Editor – Somebody who can publish posts, manage posts as well as
manage other people’s posts, etc.
* Author – Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts
* Contributor – Somebody who can write and manage their posts but
not publish posts
* Subscriber – Somebody who can read comments/comment/receive news
letters, etc.
If you aren’t a bully or a troll, we want you to be able to start fresh topics at your discretion. This means that Joan or I need to invite you to Liberal Moscow and set your role to that of Author. If you aren’t an Author, but a Contributor, you can originate as many topics as you wish, but the messages won’t be published (visible to other users) until they have been approved by someone acting in the roles of Administator or Editor. A Subscriber can comment on existing messages but can’t originate messages.
To become an Author, send an e-mail to Joan or myself making that request, and we will make it happen. You can also make the request in this forum.
